Addressing Historical Injustice through Housing Empowerment
A long-history of redlining deepened residential segregation and kept Black and other prospective homebuyers of color from favorable loan terms and new housing developments — contributing to long-term disinvestment in predominantly Black neighborhoods. Families who experience cost-burdened housing also experience greater stress relating to food security, health care, crime, homelessness, transportation, and overall social stability.
Restore Homes exists to create truly affordable housing, homeownership pathways, free home repairs and energy-efficiency improvements that remove cost-burden & move the needle toward environmental justice as we know that housing is critical to the stability of families and communities.
Home Rental Program
Most of our rental housing is prioritized for neighbors who are also employed with our workforce development program to ensure that we are able to serve them holistically. However, we do occasionally have homes available for neighbors who are not part of our workforce development team. To inquire about home rental or to see our available properties:
Get In TouchHome Buyer Program
Redlining was an unethical practice that put services out of reach for residents of certain areas based on race. The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed to help protect minority individuals from these discriminatory practices. Because of this, we are committed to helping see more families able to purchase homes in our community. This is made possible by partnerships with local banks & homebuyers assistance programs which help us serve families with all the resources that they can possibly use to gain instant equity in homeownership & begin to bridge some of the wealth gap that exists for minority communities due to the lack of ability to own homes for decades.
Home Repair Program
Many of our elderly homeowners are first-generation homeowners. And because their home is their biggest asset & legacy – they’re willing to stay even when their house is in disrepair. Title documents are often complex, putting traditional city services out of reach. So, we use members of our Skilled Trades program to make those repairs for neighbors for free as part of their gaining trades hours toward their licensure.
Get In TouchSkilled Trades Program
RestoreOKC tries to take a “social enterprise” approach to all of our arms. That means, as we were making home repairs for years & were often dependent on contractors that were overbooked as there’s a shortage we had an idea. What if we partnered with MetroTech to start a trade school in our community that could teach adults how to not only make their own repairs, but to scale businesses & create work & economy. Our Skilled Trades program allows men & women to gain exposure to all of the various skilled trades before identifying one that they would like to specialize in.
